St. Vladimir’s Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church
St. Vladimir’s Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church
Built 1934, Depicts 1934-1935
The features of this church are typical features of traditional churches in Ukraine. The large open dome and cross-shaped floor plan, as well as the decorative style of the interior are traditional features.
When Ukrainian immigrants first settled in east central Alberta, the churches they built were much simpler in style than this church built in 1934. The parish that built this church in Vegreville departed from the tradition of standing for services by adding seats for the congregation.
